The 1st edition of the e-book "Virtual Power Plant Solution for Future Smart Energy Communities" was issued recently. This book provides a general overview of virtual power plants (VPP) as a key technology in future energy communities and active distribution and transmission networks for managing distributed energy resources, providing local and global services, and facilitating market participation of small-scale managing distributed energy resources and prosumers. The book also aims at describing some practical solutions, business models, and novel architectures for the implementation of VPPs in the real world.
Each chapter of the book begins with the fundamental structure of the problem required for a rudimentary understanding of the methods described. It provides a clear picture for practical implementation of VPP through novel technologies such as blockchain, digital twin, and distributed ledger technology.
The book will help the electrical and power engineers, undergraduate, graduate students, research scholars, and utility engineers to understand the emerging solutions regarding the VPP concept lucidly.
BC2050 has contributed with a dedicated Chapter to this e-book about "Centralized and Decentralized Optimization Approaches for Energy Management within the VPP".

Blockchain2050 BV is proud to announce that VALKYRIES has
been accepted for funding by the European Commission. The proposal
delivered a fine solution which stood out from the hard competition.
VALKYRIES was submitted by a well-formed multidisciplinary consortium under
the SU-DRS02-2018-2019-2020 of Horizon 2020 and it deals with innovative technologies
for first responders. INDRA SA leads the overall effort, while Blockchain 2050 BV will
contribute to the project by participating in the development of Blockchain and DLT
solutions that will support the project. This is a great success because Blockchain 2050
BV will now officially expand its activities in the Homeland Security sector.
The project is expected to kick-off in October 2021.

VPP4Islands is a EU funded project that proposes disruptive solutions based on Digital Twin concept, Virtual Energy Storage Systems and Distributed Ledger Technology to revolutionize the existing VPP and build smart energy communities.From its website, visitors can learn about the project’s concept and impact, read the latest news and be informed about the Work Packages and its current progress. In the context of constant searching for acclaimed partners for the realization of strategic partnerships, BC2050 is pleased to announce that it is now a member of the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA). INATBA is a global forum with direct communications channels for developers and users of DLT to further advance Blockchain technology, through interaction with regulators and policy makers. BC2050 and INATBA share the same vision towards the advancement of Blockchain technology. BC2050 is representing project VPP4ISLANDS to the "DATA MANAGEMENT" Working Groups which is created from BRIDGE Initiative. The BRIDGE Initiative helps to connect engaged members and relevant Smart Grid and green Energy, Islands, and Digitalisation Projects to create a structured view of cross-cutting priorities. In 2021, 22 new European projects have joined BRIDGE initiative, participated in the discussions related to the green energy transition and contributed to the elaboration of novel EU directives by innovating the EU’s energy system and sharing their best practices. This happened during the BRIDGE General Assembly which took place on 2nd, 3rd and 4th of March, virtually, presenting the latest developments of the initiative. BC2050 attended the BRIDGE GA representing VPP4ISLANDS project.

The Municipality of Argos-Mycenae became the first Municipality to install Blockchain technology. In the context of the integration of new technologies and the modernization of its administrative structures, the Municipality of Argos-Mycenae became the first Municipality of Greece to implement the Blockchain technology in its services.

As of 30/June/2020, a team of stakeholders from quite different verticals, work objectives and geographical origins gave birth to a brilliant initiative of a quite pioneering vision: Space Waste management via Blockchain Technology. The project aims to counter the problem of space debris. More than 20.000 objects larger than 3 inches and over 128 million of smaller size, are populating several orbits around Earth. Most of them pose a great risk since they contain toxic and hazardous materials. By using Blockchain technology, space waste management will be effectively conducted by accurately mapping out floating debris. Blockchain technology is selected as a major pillar of this pioneering work because it presents significant potential for secure data sharing and improving the robustness of data collection of space debris and space waste management among the numerous projects and different stakeholders.
We are proud to announce that the new H2020-project VPP4ISLANDS, in which blockchain2050 participates, has been awarded. The start date will be 1 October 2020 and the (virtual) kick-off meeting will take place on 22 and 23 October. The project will develop Virtual Power Plants for interoperable and smart islands in Europe. From our office at CIC Rotterdam we will work on and support this great project.
Regarding the forthcoming HORIZON EUROPE calls and topics which are relevant to clusters: CL4 (WP7 - Digital, Industry and Space), CL5 (WP8 - Climate, Energy and Mobility) and CL6 (WP9 - Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment), we are planning to base our contribution onto Blockchain technology and tokenization for data transparency, security and enhanced adaptation. Specifically for tokenization we should mention that it is quite essential to numerous transactions aiming to remove any original sensitive payment or personal data from business systems, thus to protect them from negative financial impacts of a data theft. It provides safety and security to consumers and also compliance with industry regulations significantly easier, being applied to any potential vertical today.
